Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon and we need your help!

It's a WHOLE WEEK set aside to explore the world of books and to expand our libraries at home, and at Dater Montessori (did you send in your $1 & Book Slip?) It's also a chance to get a jump on getting gifts for the holidays.

But we're gonna need a whole herd of Dater folks to staff the week-long sale. Every day next week from 9-5 and Family Night (Wednesday NOV. 19/ 6-6:30 and 8-8:30 pm )

That's where you come in . . . Please contact Ms. Kim Johnson (school technologist/librarian) asap if you can help. Let her know what days and times are best for you. You can leave her a note in her mailbox at school, or contact her at johnski@cps-k12.org or 363-0908.

Dater Harvest Moon Festival Rocks!
A letter from the DHMF Coordinator

I will not be able to say it enough
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Every day last week (and many other days before) I would wake up early thinking about last night. I don't remember dreaming about the Harvest Moon Festival (HMF,) but when I woke up my mind would be talking to me about it. Some detail would pop into my head -- a phone call to make, a spot to fill, and that nagging dread that there won't be enough prizes -- and I would not fall back to sleep.

I went to bed last night thrilled with the way our event turned out and glad to maybe sleep in a little. I woke at 6 and again my mind was talking about the Harvest Moon Festival and I did not fall back to sleep. Only, this time, it was not a conversation about all the little things I had to do. It was a conversation about what we have done together. Believe me people will be talking about this one!

I really hope you all had a moment in the night where things got still  and you looked around and saw the faces of the children. There was excitement, wonder, awe and gratitude. The Naturalist from the Hamilton County Parks praised the Dater kids and community. The rep from the Cincinnati Astronomical Society practically begged to be invited back and said next year he's really going to really bring it. The HMF first-timers were pinching themselves! They were amazed at the scope and the enthusiasm. Even I'm amazed and I've done this before.

You made the 794 people that signed in quite happy and proud to be a part of the Dater Community.

I hope, in the next day or so, you get a chance to reflect on the job you did. Please jot down anything that worked and anything you would change about your station and tuck it into your folder. If there were details that you feel were missing in your folder, please add them. I'll be out of town most of next week, but soon after I return I have every intention of throwing you people a party!! Prizes will be awarded.

I was really excited to wake up this morning, because I've missed my kids a little bit. They did not get the attention they expect from me this week. I let things slide (you do not even want to see my house right now!) But this morning I sat on the couch for an hour with my sons while they showed me all the prizes they won and listened to all their stories about this year's Harvest Moon Festival. That is why we do it. THANK YOU ALL!

Until we meet again, I leave you with this quote:  "The things he(she) sees are not just remembered; they form a part of his(her) soul,"
                                                                                                                                                                   Maria Montessori

You have my love and respect,
Mary Anne Cowgill

ps. Please pass this message on to the wonderful people that helped you.

As always we ask that families are patient, safe and respectful.

Things to know:

  • The school day is 9:15-3:45pm . We begin accepting students at 8:45am . This is a change from previous years. We ask that you not drop off your child(ren) before 8:45am . There is no adult supervision before that time. The YMCA program is available for parents who are interested in before and/or after care. Please contact Mrs. Wells at 363-0977.
  • Office hours are 8:15-4:15pm .
  • All students may participate in our Universal Breakfast program. When students arrive at school, they may go to the cafeteria and get breakfast. If your child arrives late, they may still get breakfast.
  • All visitors must sign in at the office and get a Visitor’s badge. Please do not get offended if a staff member asks to see your badge. It is only for the safety of your staff and students.
  • We ask that you do not park in the numbered spaces. These spaces are reserved for staff. The white lined spaces are for the Roberts’ staff. Please be respectful of their space and do not park in those spaces.
  • Please refer to the calendar link to view upcoming events.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities

We are in desperate need for someone to set up the After School Enrichment Program. We will put you in touch with the past chairpersons. There is an abundance of information to help. If no one steps up there will be no program.

If you are interested in the following events please call the corresponding chairperson, or PTA President Mary Anne Cowgill at 699-7310, or have Laura drop a note into her mailbox.

Don’t be afraid to take the first step.
