Public Montessori Education
Academic Expectations in the Montessori Program (3–6, 6–9, and 9–12)
At Dater Montessori, a public Montessori school within Cincinnati Public Schools, we are proud to follow the Montessori Scope and Sequence adopted by our district for Mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), and Cultural Studies. This framework blends the best of Montessori philosophy with the academic accountability of public education.
Montessori Levels & Expectations
· Primary (3–6 years): Students develop foundational skills through hands-on, sensorial experiences. Early literacy, numeracy, and cultural understanding are introduced in a way that supports independence, focus, and curiosity.
· Lower Elementary (6–9 years): Students begin to explore abstract concepts in reading, writing, and mathematics, while continuing to engage deeply in cultural subjects like geography, zoology, botany, and early civilizations.
· Upper Elementary (9–12 years): Students apply their learning through critical thinking, collaboration, and independent research. They tackle complex grammar, multi-digit math, and integrated cultural projects that prepare them for middle school and beyond.
Alignment with Ohio Learning Standards
As a public Montessori school, Dater ensures that the Montessori Scope and Sequence is fully aligned with the Ohio Learning Standards (OLS). This alignment guarantees that students experience the depth and richness of Montessori education while meeting the rigorous academic expectations set by the state of Ohio.
Teachers use detailed crosswalks to connect Montessori materials and lessons with Ohio’s grade-level benchmarks, ensuring our students are both developing as whole learners and progressing academically.
We are proud to offer a public education that honors the Montessori approach while preparing students for future academic success in alignment with state standards.
If you’d like more information about our academic program or how Montessori aligns with OLS, please reach out to your child’s teacher or a member of our school leadership team.
